Repower Recomendations for 1999 Tournament 225 replacement for E-tec 225hp 2008

Hello Everyone
I have a 1999 Tournament 225. I currently have a 225hp E-Tec on the bracket. According to specs, the E-Tech weighs 530lbs. Any suggestion on engines HP and weight. The weight is primary the concern for me. Also, not sure what the max. weight can be put on the bracket. The boat and transome are in excellent shape.

Depends on the brand and size of motor that you want to go with. Your year and model of boat have a maximum horsepower rating of 250 hp, so it depends if you want to stay with 225 hp or bump up to 250 hp. Mercury is generally always the lightest outboard, their 225 hp outboards are anywhere from 475-507 lbs and then their 250 hp outboards range from 505-600 lbs. Their 225-250 Pro XS both weigh 505 lbs, so you could go with either power rating for that particular motor. If the boat handles fine as is though, then I'm not sure I'd go with their lightest model and lose potentially 55 lbs in the stern. That could be counterproductive depending on the boat and how well it handles currently.

I have an 01 Tournament 22.5. Repowered from the original 200 hpdi 540 lbs to a older f250 610 lbs. It sits fine but with people/weight near the transom, it's heavy. I like the extra power but will be looking to repower. I think somewhere around 550+- lbs would be the sweet spot.

I wouldn't worry too much about the weight as far as "an issue" goes - just follow the plate on your boat about max HP.

However, if you're worried about weight from the standpoint of your scuppers, then sure. Although you can help offset that by moving some items forward - or even using dead weight up at the bow.

As far as what engines to look at - look at them all - they're all good nowadays. You'll have to make that choice - and the weights are easily found on each manufacturer's website.

You didn't mention if you were looking for used or new - but either way, weights are easily found.

I repowered my 228 from a 200 HPDI to a 250 Mercury. Two seasons on it now and I have loved it. Was lightest of the bunch and is a V8.
