I'm looking to repower my 2001 232 Gulfstream with a single Yamaha 300. I like the idea of having one engine to maintain and fuel instead of two. I am also on the St. Lawrence Seaway (1000 Islands), so no need for redundancy, plus I am a cottager, so I don't frequent marinas unless I am gassing up (close quarter maneuverability not essential here). I may have to go with a new bracket though, because I don't think my twin bracket has the right hole spacing in between, apart from the fact that it is probably not beefed up enough in the centre anyway. Can this boat handle a single bracket, or does it have to be the same footprint to maintain structural integrity of the transom?
