No. My connector was less than 3/4" and I left it on. Polly pull rope to fiberglass fish tape and electrical tape over. A little work to get it in and out of the tube but no big deal.

Getting up thru the helm tube to the box above was a challenge. Here is what I did.

I do not cut the connectors off to pull the cable. I use a 2' piece of braided expandable tubing (Chinese finger) to make a pulling eye. The photo below shows my fiberglass snake end that I insert the tubing thru and electrical tape back on itself about 3 inches.

Next I slide the connector inside the braided tubing about 12". I tie wrap it about 6" from the connector and then tape the braided tubing to the cable. The idea is to pull the cable not the connector. The snake and the braided tubing will come out and allow you to get on it and pull on the braided tubing and not the connector or cable.

This is the finished pulling eye. You can see the snake connection, the tywrap and the tape to the cable. You can also see the connector is not at the tywrap, its ahead of it so the "pull" is on the cable. This was after I pulled it thru so the tape is a little messed up.

I have found that it is a lot easier to fold over the connector end into a loop, tape off the connector to the cable, attach the drag line to the top of the loop and pull it that way. In effect the connector is being pulled backwards. In some cases, this is the only way I have been able to pull ducer cables in a tightly packed rigging tube. The same approach works well at the electronics box too.
