I purchased a 1994 208 Adventure with a 200 SWS Yamaha outboard. I used it for the fall season last year and put her away for the winter. The tilt motor was rusty when I bought it. Is this some thing that must be replaced? Can I take the motor off with out removing the complete engine? Sandblast, epoxy paint, the motor works fine, Murphy's Law prevails. It will go south at the wrong time. Any ideas? Thanx GW woody

I have a 226 seafarer and I also have the same issue. I was wondering if you were feeling any stiffness in the wheel?

Sand down the rust treat with OSPHO, paint with rustoleum red primer paint top coat. The motor housing is prety thick this should solve the problem.

Use a dremmel drill and the custom attachments to remove the rust. Spray with Zinc Chromate Professioal Primer. Then spray with Yamaha Metalic Silver Motor Paint. Seal the paint with a clear cloat of Yamalube Yamashield Rust and Corrosion Protection. This will last for several seasons or more. Its the Yamalube Rust Protection that makes the job last. Otherwise the rust returns even before you put the boat in the water by spring.

I think that I also have the same turing and that surning issue can be felt in the wheel. Its kind of stiff but it seems like it clicks a little as well. That part on the motor def. looks shot is it an easy repair/ replace and or does the steeming issue sould like the problem with the mount? I just replace the whole stearing column last summer and that didn't help..

The tilt motor raises and lowers the outboard engine. I do not believe that it affects the turning stiffness. Call GW corporate in Greenville and ask them directly.
