Hi!

I'm Looking at a late 80's Grady White Sailfish 25, powered by OMC (4.3L?) V6's.

Any comments on this hull and/or the motors? Seems to be a fairly rare setup - particularly with these motors. Forum search here and over at THT hasn't turned up a whole lot.

I realize OMC isn't around any more. I don't have time to work on this boat myself, but have budgeted a couple thousand a year to keep it maintained properly.

I will have a survey done to look for the typical (for this age) transom, etc., wood core issues.

Primary use will be a mix of cruising and light fishing with my wife and two small girls in the mid-upper Chesapeake area.

I've never owned an I/O before - always avoided them after my dad's I/O's always seemed to be disasters growing up. But I am pretty limited at my price point (~$10k). My thinking is that this gets us into a boat that will safely and comfortably move us through bay chop, catch some stripers, and even overnight on if everyone is getting along well enough to squeeze in.

I'd appreciate if you guys could give me an idea of what I'm getting into - again particularly with that power package. General thoughts, but also performance & fuel burn. Just by comparing to similar boats it looks like I should probably expect a cruise around 25 mph and WOT (can you run these motors wide open like you can with outboards?) around 35, with maybe 1.5mpg at cruise.
