Looking to install a sun shade over rear cockpit for dockside use on my 2005 282 sailfish. Have a short 3 foot one now but not long enough to shade rear area.
Any ideas out there?

I went through this process recently. I could not justify the many $600+ options out there and did not want to have the straps in the way and rod holders consumed, while the shade was deployed. I found one of these used on FB Marketplace for $175 and it’s a good design:

Not that tough of a design to replicate if you are handy.

Just got done with our sunshade on our 305 Express. Poles and shade purchased off Amazon for about $80.00 all I had to do was put a few new grommets in the shade and I added pcv pipe to the bottoms of poles so they would fit better in rod holders. For the hard top side I used nylon webbing with plastic quick connect latch's. For the money its perfect and does just what we needed.

I have a permanent shade on my Marlin. Love it in the Florida sun.

I bought one of these from Amazon:

Oceansouth T-Top Bow Shade

I put it on aft side of the boat's top and use two boat hooks as rear support. Side straps attach to top's legs rather than to cleats. Works well. I actually bought to shade cabin for this summer's boat trip to take some pressure off AC. But does double duty pretty well. Folds up quite small and lightweight.

Great info, I am also looking for Shade options….the sun is no longer the friend he used to be

This is my dockside version. I ordered polls from Canvas Creations in FL. Need to sew the fly shade version.
