seafarer gunwale padding

I'm looking at pre-owned seafarer 228's and noticed some don't have the padding along the gunwale. Was there a particular year that GW began this feature? Or was this always an option? Was it not available if a bimini top was ordered (it seems like the bimini folds back along the gunwale where the padding would be)?

Far as I know its always been an option. It was available for the 1998 model you reference in another post, but may have been left off due to the Bimini issue. It can be added by a good upholstery shop.

My 2001 228 had them and my 2006 228 doesn't. I actually like not having them as it makes the cockpit feel a little bigger. My fishing crew preferred having them and remind me of this whenever we bottom fish!!!
