Not to beat a dead horse here, but, I am assuming the Thru the hull transducer, no, holes will work on the GW 272. Please let me know if you have one and if it works ok. Looking at a Garmin 720 with a shoot thru transducer, 600W. Steve

I have a shoot through transducer with a Garmin 5" depth/gps set up. It works very well. My transducer is mounted on the bottom just forward of the batteries. Marty

:uhm If you're going deeper than 150' and/or want a good reading at speed, consider a stronger transducer ...

I have a 1KW on the Marlin. The bottom is all glass, so a shoot thru will work.

I have been using a 1KW Airmar shoot-through for a long time. I installed it under the cabin sole, as recommended by GW.

We have tracked bottom trolling across the Norfolk Canyon in over 3400 feet. I have no problem seeing fish hanging off ledges in 650' to 850'.

Thanks for the responses to the above post. I will try to get the 1kw transducer. Looking at the Garmin 740S. Steve

Can't help you with the 740S, but you won't know if you didn't really need the bigger transducer. You would if you needed it but didn't get it ...
