I have a 2001 300 Marlin and want to know what I should do while hooked up to shore power yet still using DC house battery stuff (water, radio, cabin lights etc.). Should I leave battery charger on the entire time or only after certain amount of time? Thanks in advance!

I always have mine plugged in at the dock - things still run off the batteries that need to but the charger keeps the charger keeps them fully charged.. I was told that you should never have your outbaord running when on shore power because having two charging units - the engines and the shore power could damage one or the other - I had the both acciidently a few times and nothing hapeened but it makes sense and why take chances - good luck
Boat in slip. Shore power connected and all 24/7. Refrigerator on 24/7. Battery charger on 24/7.
Just replaced the two starting batteries and the two-bank house battery after 6-3/4 years of battery service. And only out of caution, with no battery problems evident.
And I have never encountered any adverse effects of running the engines while on shore power with the battery charger powered as well.
