I have an option on a Simrad AP setup. It is a AC42 computer with an AP44 controller and a RPU80 pump. The electronics on my boat is a Raymarine C90W MFD, Raymarine RL80C Radar/MFD and a Garmin Striker 7. The Raymarines are linked thru a Seatalk/2K converter. Is there any reason that that older Simrad AP wouldn't work on the Raymarine legacy unit?

I don't think you will be able to use the Simrad rudder reference, I don't think they are compatible. To be sure contact Raymarine, they should be able to tell you for sure .

I was hoping the AC42 had virtual rudder capabilities so I wouldn't need a rudder indicator on the outboards. I will have to try and learn more about that. Thanks wrxhoon.

You might be need the RC42 instead of whatever heading sensor/rate compass you have now. Found the manual via a Google search.

Copied and pasted below:

On boats powered by outboards or stern drives it may be difficult to install a rudder feedback unit (Refer to RF300, RF25 or LF3000 in this manual). Use of the Virtual Rudder Feedback, VRFTM, algorithms in the software may then be preferred as this requires no installation of a rudder feedback

unit. The VRF can be used on boats up to 40 ft.
2 The VRF technology requires a Simrad rate compass (RC42) for heading information to the autopilot system.
