hopefully you have had at least a similar one, if not the same one with the rpu-80 pump. Where did the pump get mounted, and where, if you have the virtual unit, did he put the compass???? And the 10,000.00 question how does or did it perform?? :hmmNO REGRETS

Hi - I have the AP16 in a 27 foot Sailfish. This boat has a center birth under the bridge. At the back of the birth behind a plywood panel is a large compartment with a horizontal surface and vertical surface to which is mounted my trim-tab motor and waterpumps. The AP computer and pump are located on the starboard side of this compartment on horizontal surfaces. This is perhaps 1 foot behind the captains chair. The compass is mounted to the bulkhead in the cabin just inside the door - photo below

thanks guys. I have two cylinders and a tie bar ....75 % of the installers said that is what they installed rpu80 , only 2 of 7 people said I would notice the difference between the pumps. The bigger issue is keeping the pump as close to the helm as possible. This eliminates any major flow rate friction of the fluid , creating more work for the pump. How did they or you attach to the hydraulic lines? and were they normal lines or COPPER...I have been told they could be copper in a '99 306 bimini going as far as the end of the rigging tube.

Mine came already installed - I did notice that the lines coming off the pump were copper.

It is interesting .THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY'S!!! I went to look at an identical 306,but it was a 2002. It had ap-11 and a rpu80 pump. This guy uses the boat as a tender and pulls it behind a 72 foot Hatteras. He prints money, when need be. I feel if the pump, which is in the center console shelf where the plastic mirror is on the bulkhead wall , was suspect in any way, HE WOULD HAVE NOT ONLY MOVED IT, HE WOULD USE THE BEST PUMP NEEDED FOR THE JOB. The yacht is captain maintained so I have to feel they would know if it was sub par .( They just returned from 2 months in the Bahamas . They caught numerous yellow fin Tuna,) I really would like to "steer " my installer in the correct direction regarding HOW AND WHERE to exactly access the helm tubing . If it is copper and hard to deal with , or if it not THAT bad, and should I abandon the copper and run NEW hydraulic lines. Where to tee in that won't be a future leak nightmare and the usual how what and why's. :hmm

I deleted my posts because the rich guy's boat must be right.

However, you asked about an AP-24VF and an AP-11 has rudder feedback. Not the same animal at all.

Best wishes.

Sorry if you took it personally. But I had asked fairly straight forward questions and was not getting direct responses. So I went to look at boats. I happened to find the first mate cleaning the tender , which happened to be a 306 bimini with 225 Yamaha 4 strokes. I asked him where the pump was, it was in the center console and it was an rpu80. So, if an ap11 was generation 1, and ap24 is a later model , I get the rudder feed back vs virtual thing, but the pump not so...... much...........
My last boat had a rudder feed back from navico, two cylinders, and was a Catamaran powerboat......Same helm as this boat , I have come to learn to trust but verify. Sorry if I asked and then gave MY findings. I've been on boats since I was in a crib. I have learned a lot in 40 years of boat operating( and I am not 40).......... :sorry

 ap-24 installed ,trolls perfectly runs 30mph perfectly, put the pump in the compartment near the electric fuse panels in the upper compartment in the center console. No major install, my mechanic installed it in less than 3 hours, (HARDEST PART was the return line to the helm access) set up took 45 minutes on the water...Can't hear the pump while under way........nice feeling having it work as advertised. the compass is down in the hatch near the bilge pump in the floor of the center console. All is good . :D Hooked to the hds 10 ,goes to waypoints as it should.......Now, I just need to use it and learn all that it is capable of doing.
