We have a 226 Seafarer with a 1997 Johnson 225 Oceanrunner. Our top speed is around 35 and that is pushing it. Any ideas why shes running so slow. Also the RPM's wont go above 5100. I know that they can get up to the 40's. Maybe it could be the prop? Any ideas?

Has this always been this way or is it recent? Think that motor should be 5k-6k WOT, so theoretically your in the ballpark but I would think you should get 5500 rpm or more. Assuming your speedometer is correct there are several possibilities: incorrect prop, engine (out of tune or low compression), excessive growth on bottom, water in hull. Hopefully someone else on the forum has a similar set up so that you can see what you actually should be doing as far as speed/ rpms..good luck

What does she do at cruising speed? Personally I never run WOT, but have tested my 228 to 5200 rpms on my 2003 OX66 200hp. I normally run 3800-4200rpms and get approx 29-31 mph.

how old is the boat?

I can reach 46mph with my 228G and Yamaha 225 OX66. It hit's 5700 rpm up there though, so I don't do it. It could be your prop (it would have to be a "rocket" coming out of the hole!), or certainly could be losing some power from the engine.
