I have a 226 Seaferer and when I looked up underneath the steering console the steering box (don't know the technical term for the box that attaches to the steering wheel and steering cables) appears to have a a very slight oil leak. Is it possible to repair this? I assume it may be a gasket or seal issue. Can this type of repair be done on the steering box? or can it only be replaced? Is it a difficult repair? As I said the leak is very slight (sweating a drop every now and then) - is there any band aid fixes?

Yes, is the oil coming from around the shaft out the top going into the wheel?

Or is it from behind?

If it's wet, dry it all off and watch where it restarts. You can get some blackboard chaulk and crush it or baby powder and dust it over everything aftter it is cleaned, and it wil show teh leak very well.

If behind, check your hose connecting fittings for torque. Snug them up.

oil drip is on the bottom of the box so I will clean it up and see if I can see where it is coming from. Thanks.
