I started the audio upgrade on my Freedom 255 today. Enlarged 4 speaker holes and now scoping out where to put the single 10" sub in the gunwale. The existing speaker holes were reinforced with glassed-in plywood at the factory. The rest of the wall is just the 1/4 glass laminate.
I did manage to peek inside the gunwale cavities on both sides. Just in front of the rod holder openings into the cavity, there appears to be a 12" x 12" section of plywood glassed in just above the deck line. There is a matching piece on the other side.
Does anyone know why GW glassed in those 2 section of plywood since there presently no penetrations at either place? Whatever side I choose, they look like the perfect spot to mount a sub with a built in backer.
