What does it tell you when twin 225s are going for two grand more than 350?

Profit margins are off the chart.
And/or
Someone is smart enough to realize the benefit of buying market share because they aren't selling enough.

Most likely Merc engines, being so light, that Honda sales are lower than they could be. If the BF350 was 100 lbs. lighter, they would sell more. If your boat could handle the weight, the BF 350 would be a fantastic engine on a boat.

With so many Yamabomb v8s out there ready for replacement, weight is a non issue for Honda. In fact, the similar weight to boats engineered for the V8 Yamachops should be a benefit. The CGs will be the same allowing for the same handling, but overall better performance.

Based on the stories I have read, the new boat market has taken a significant hit after the crazy Covid/post Covid mania. A lot of folks jumped into boating kind of impulsively and soon realized that boating is expensive, not just buying but operationally, maintaining, and storing. Dealers had increased stock to meet the crazy demand and also stocked up on motors which in the early days of the buying spree got scarce.. When the market slowed down, the larger boats took the biggest hit first. In addition, a lot of the impulse bought boats went on the market. That put a serious dent on new boat sales. ( as well as lowering used boat values.
Many dealers get caught with inventory that wasn't moving.

An interesting fact is that for first time in a long time, I received an offer for free NY Boat show tickets from a Grady dealer:)
BTW, I will be attending the NY Boat Show this month to get a feeling on market conditions.

I had my annual meeting at work last week. The company's highly calibrated crystal ball does not paint a Rosie picture.
I think the day of reconning will be arriving in 2026 for boat manufacturers. Time will tell if they are prepared to lay in the thorny bed they made.

Hopefully, a slower manufacturing pace will lead to better fit and finish which has significantly suffered from poor manufacturing standards and lower quality parts.
We may see the demise of some manufacturers.
