I have a 2006 Sailfish 282 and would like to install swivel rod holders to catch Blue fin Tuna. I'm thinking of Lee's 0 degree holder but am unsure of the depth that I should use. I have that 10.5" is not enough and that I should use 13 to 14" depth holders. Does any body have any experience or recommendations on what to install and where? I have seen some of the posts but from what I have read so far, most of the installs are angled to some degree (i.e. 15 to 30 degree). I'm looking to fight the fish in the holder and also do I need to reinforce the holder with a backing plate to ensure enough strength. Any help would be appreciated.

I got set up with four 0-degree holders up your way at Saco Bay Tackle Co. He had two brands, LD Marine, which a lot of folks in the "fleet" use and I like them because they have 4 bolts instead of 3 like the Lees, and another locally made brand which I bought that were considerably beefier then the LDs. The brand is MP Commercial Rod Holders and there is a phone number on them: 207-247-3482. These also have 4 holes and seem to weigh almost twice as much as the LDs. Both come with SS backing plates. The length is about 12". Most folks do not get the angled ones - in fact, my buddy had four zero-degree and two 15 degree and he just replaced the 15 degree ones with 0 degree ones.

You can see the 15 degree one in the middle of the photo on their page below - the angle of the pole is steeper then for the other two poles. Those are LDs and you can see the broad square top with four holes.

depending on how serious you plan to go after this, you could look at drop ins that turn a standard rod holder into a swivel one. just a cheap idea....
