Hello Everyone, I recently picked up a 1997 232 Gulfstream and I am currently going through it. I had it surveyed and had the engines (2 stroke Yamaha 150's Saltwater Series) inspected. The boat is solid but not much has been updated. I want to start by replacing both tanks and having the trim/tilt rebuilt by Five Star Marine.

Where would I get replacement tanks? Is there a go to vendor with decent pricing and good quality?

It helps to know where you are located.

I replaced my tanks a few years back. SP Marine Tanks in Clermonte, NJ. Also Patriot Marine in Forked River, NJ.

are your trim/tilt pumps not working or leaking? If leaking, where are they leaking.

The tilt/trim units are leaking out of the seals. I can clearly see it under pressure. Why are you asking? Do you think just replacing the seals maybe the way to go? I got a quote from Five Star Marine and they anticipate it costing close to $1K per unit for complete rebuild. I only want to use these motors for a couple of years before repower.
 
If you have three hydraulic cylinders and you probably do, are all leaking or just the trim (outer) cylinders? The center (tilt) cylinder is a bit more difficult to replace seals and would require another size pin wrench
Inspect the tilt ram rods for any corrosion or gauges, etc. If they are damaged from wear, new seal will probably still leak.
The seal kits are not expensive. A quality pin wrench to remove the caps runs about $70

. You can buy new caps with seals if needed. Getting the old caps off may be the hard part and thee caps may be damaged in doing so hence the need for new caps. So if seals are all you need, you will spend a few hundred versus $2,000 for rebuilds.

Does anyone know the length of the fuel and vent hoses? I am replacing the tanks with new FMT tanks.
 
I would not recommend a poly tank. Aluminum is much better when it comes to condensation control and warpage. Poly tanks end up with water intrusion after a few years. The top caves in and holds water leading to corrosion of the sending unit. Then water starts pouring in. I deal with that a lot at my outboard shop. Be sure to get a good epoxy coating on the aluminum tank.
 
With all my respect, you are totally wrong regarding poly tanks.
Aluminum due it's temp conduction is much more prone to condensation than plastic tanks and a well made poly tank does not warp id installed correctly.
The biggest limitation with poly tanks is that the size is limited to 150 gallons ans dimensions are given while a aluminum tank can be fabricated to measure.
Nowadays (at least in Italy) most new boats come with factory installed poly tanks as they are far superior to SS tanks we use here and on all the boats (mine or others) i replaced aluminum or SS tanks with poly tanks i had absolutely no problem at all and none of the ones you mentioned.
