Well, the Yamaha engineers saved me from myself.
After rinsing out my F200 on my Adventure, I neglected to twist the water line connector tight. As I ran the boat, unbeknown to me, the thing was leaking pretty bad, then came undone. My engine dropped back to 2000 RPM and the overheat alarm came on. I shut her down quickly, discovered my error and properly connected the fitting. I anchored up for about 30 minutes to let everything cool down, started her up and ran slowly back to port. The marina mechanic checked it out, said those sensors will set the alarm off long before any damage is done. He and I ran her at 4500 RPM for about 1/2 hour, no problem.
Lesson learned...check out the boat and motor carefully BEFORE starting out.
