I have the opportunity to purchase a 1989 232 Gulfstream with 130HP Yamahas and plan to repower shortly there after. Any advice from the experienced would be helpful.

Thanks,

I think the max hp rating for the boat is 400hp or at least that's what it is for the newer models. I have a 2000 Gulfstream with twin 150s and it seems to be a great match for the boat. Running at 3900-4000rpms I'm cruising around 28mphs. The biggest issue when repowering is going to be whether or not the transom can handle the additional weight. You should be fine with 150s but 200 four strokes will probably add too much weight to the transom. Good luck, the Gulstream is a great boat.

I think the older ones had a max HP of 350. Zuke 140s on that hull would be awesome!

I think the max on my 1990 230 (open transom) is 300 hp..I have twin 150's and they are plenty of power..why are you going to yank off the 130's...are they shot? She must run OK with them..4000 rpms probably sees 26 mph...My boat runs 30 mph at 4000 rpms and cruises at 24-26 mph at 3600 rpms....
