Thoughts on Cruising speed for 1989 23 GS

I am a new used Grady owner and I finally took her to the water on Sunday. I have a I/O, 350 mercruiser. I was running around 3600 rpm and cruising at 23/24mph. Is this about right? I tried to wind it up and it started to backfire at 4000. No plans on running at 4k, I was just trying to see how she would perform. Thanks for the input.

crusing speeds

I haave an 87 GS with a pair of merc 150's on a bracket and at 4K RPMS I run about 30-32MPH...

I have a '84 Offshore with a 350 Mercruiser I rebuilt w/ Vortec heads. I am turning a 17" prop and run 30MPH @ 3600RPM.......WOT is ~4600RPM.
