With my past aluminium boats I used one strap across the gunwales. Having a rubbing strip on the 228, I am wondering if transom straps would be better. What are others using.

Transom straps on my 228. Also a bow strap to help with bounce on long road trips. You can see bow strap in the fish fry pic.

Stern straps, here. On my boats, plus the hundreds I've worked on/around the years. For the bow eye, I've always just made sure that the bow eye is pulled/nestled tightly undernead the bow roller to lock it in place and keep the bow from bouncing. But adding that extra securment down to the trailer frame certainly can't hurt - extra is never a bad idea.
