After purchasing my 2010 Tournament 275 the beginning of last August (and never splashing it last year), I waited 255 days (not that anyone is counting) to finally take delivery of my boat yesterday. It was a perfect day (other than 10-20 knot winds) with temperatures in the high 50's low 60's and the sun shining. Buying a boat in August and waiting until the following April is not something I'd suggest to any sane boater (and then again, there's probably no such thing as a sane boater). In the intervening months, I've been on Great Grady every day and looked at pictures of the boat.
Yesterday was one of the best days of my life (up there with the birth of my kids, their graduations from high school, the day I got married, and the day I met my wife). They say that the two happiest days in a boat owner's life are the day he buys it and the day he sells it. Unless I'm selling the 275 to get another Grady, I'll modify that phrase to say it's only the day he takes delivery (and not the day he actually writes the check).
I can't thank everyone on the forum enough for all the advice (both pre-purchase and as I had questions about what electronics to buy, etc.). I also can't say enough great things about the team at Cataumet Boats who sold me my Grady White. Jack McMath, Pete Way, and Sheila Giancola made the whole experience even that much better. I also am so glad that I made the trip to Greenville to visit the GW factory (and appreciate the time spent with me by Eddie Rowe as well as having had the opportunity to meet Kris Carroll and her management team).
After taking delivery, I was out on the boat for about an hour heading to my mooring and had a 2'+ chop. The boat handled beautifully (I didn't take a drop over the windshield). Where my prior boat (a 21' Seaswirl Striper) would have pounded, the Grady just sliced through the waves like they were nothing (now I understand the term "Grady Built"). Can't wait to get out on her next weekend (this weekend will be a washout).
Here are the pictures:
