I took the merc 175 off my 1994 Tournament ant put on a 2003 Suzuki 140 2 stroke efi.
The mpg is about 1/2 what it was. Top speed is now 35mph which is fine because these like Suzuki's like to cruise at WOT.
I read that commercial fishermen in Japan push oversized over weight boats with theese Suzuki's. They run at wide open throtle going out and coming back, 7 day a week and get over 5000 hours before they need overhaul.

New Mpg?

What are you getting for the new MPG? I have an old Merc 150 Black Max (apparently the original engine), and it seems to be running well but I am sure it will give out. Where did you find the engine?

Don't beleive everything you read, Running any motor at WOT will take it's toll. Even on the workhorse diesels. Diesels are designed to run at 80-85% of maximum RPM range for the longest service life while gas motors are designed to run at approximately 50-65% of max RPM for the longest service life.
The Japs make some damn good engines but lets be realistic.

5000 hours for them is probably 1 1/2 years, I'd have some sort of tow plan.
