I have a tournament 275 and I was wondering if anyone has mounted any hardtop rodholders on this or a similar boat. I read another post mentioning the company that sells and manufactures hartop bolt on rod holders for grady (WMW Marine), and the site below shows two different rod holders 5 hole and a 4 hole. I am hopeful the 5 hole rocket launchers fit!!

While on the hardtop subject- has anyone mounted hardtop outriggers on a grady hardtop without mounting plates?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

These are exactly what I have been looking for as well. Do you know what they are charging for them?

rod holders or outriggers?

are you refering to the rod holders or outriggers? do you have a tournament 275 also? what year if so?

Nope, I have a 208 Adventure.
I was referring to the 4 and 5 hole hard top rod holders.

There has been much discussion on GG about the hard top's ability to support the aftermarket top-gun style outriggers without welded backing plates. While some have done it successfully I think the gamble is not worth it, hard tops are not cheap.

Did WMW give you a quote or potential shipping time frame on those rod holders?

I agree with the skepticism on bolting anything to the hartop- they are definitely not cheap. I did get a quote for both the 4 and 5 hole rod holders from WMW. John Carrol emailed me a quote of $623.00 + $50.00 for shipping for the 5 hole and $509.00 + $50.00 for shipping for the 4 hole. These look like a simple enough mount, I was just wondering if the 5 hole would actually fit. The website i posted above actuallty has the specs as far as length goes, but i am skeptical of the mounting brackets being flush without any sort of filler between the metal and the hard top. I am interested in both the rod holders and outriggers, but dont want those things ripping a hole in my hardtop on some rough seas. Thanks for the reply- let me know if you decide on mounting either and I will do the same... I was just hoping someone out there had already been the guinea pig!

take care

Thats what I was expecting but I also spoke with Birdsall (they fabricate for Venture and Bahama Boatworks, extremely nice stuff) about doing a custom one with a couple tricks for about the same amount of $$.

I have a design in mind that incorperats outrigger base pads, a friend had it built for his parker and it looks awesome. I'll see if I can get a picture.

i appreciate you commenting on my post- i would love to see a picture if you can find one- thanks!

Dropped off last Tuesday, got my boat back last Friday from Bluewater Towers in Boynton Beach, Fl.

I now have (5) tulip rod holders custom welded into pipework that incorperates welded-in pads for taco GS100 outrigger bases. There is no flex in this thing at all and no exposed fasteners, fluch aluminum plates underneath.

All I can say is that the work they did vastly exceeded my expectations!!
Scott (the owner) was extremely helpful and his recommendations and workmanship are second to none (ask Contender and Intrepid).
BTW, the price was excellent.

great job!

man that looks awesome! I think i will be printing these pics and taking them to a place in jacksonville called custom marine- they do aluminum welding work. I can only hope they do half as good a job as you got here!! thanks for posting the pix!!

I am actually originally from Jacksonville but prior to leaving for college I never had boat big enough to merrit custom aluminum so can't offer any recommendations. What part of town do you live in?

To find out how nice their stuff is just visit the shop, they should have enough tops lying around and boats in the yard for you to get a good idea of how it will turn out.

The key is the placement of supports, if you look closely there are (2) additional stand-offs where the outrigger plates are so the whole thing has (5) back-plated points of contact. This thing is rock solid b/c there will be a substantial amount of stress from riggers running in a decent sea.

custom rod holders...

hey man, finally getting ready to get some custom work like you have done in order to really have it done properly, i need to take your advice and have it done custom. If you dont mind my asking, how much id this work run you total?

Walker, I really like that look! I am looking to have a custom rod holder designed for the livewell on my 228 and think I need to talk to Bluewater Towers. Do you have contact info for them? thanks

Damn! That is really nice. Sure wish I could put rod holders like that across my 330. Unfortunately, if I did I would never reach the rods.

Hey guys, sorry I checked out for a while....work doesnt seem to let up.

Bluewater towers, the owner's name is Scott 561-315-0005
The work is stellar and I intend to have him do a crows nest for me in the near future.

In all fairness I dont want to publish the price (pm me instead if interested) but I can tell you that in Palm Beach the competition for this type of work is very stiff and Bluewater blew them out of the water.

I have a buddy who had Birdsal make basically the same thing for a parker......does not look nearly as good and from a structural standpoint is much weaker.

I had spoken to John Carrol when i had the 330 and he had faxed me or email(don't remember) a sketch of what it would look like. He makes them in a way with an angle and come down pretty much, give him a call.
