How well does a 282 Sailfish boat trailer/launch/ drive with a 3/4 ton GMC pick-up?
 
Depends..
If is gas, you'll lose your shirt in fuel costs towing it any distance.
Even if it's diesel-powered, a 3/4 is a bit light duty to tow much beyond short trips to the launch ramp or your local marina.

You also risk premature wear-and-tear of transmission, drive line components, engine, etc.

Can you do it? Probably, but I would err on the side of safety.

And then you have to be able to stop it......

I know it's your money..I understand things are tight..Just be careful it you start moving it around much.
 
I tow my 282 with a 2005 F350 Powerstroke SRW and have no issue. Do several hundred miles a year. For a short trip like that I think you can squeeze by with a lighter rig. I would not go much further without a bigger rig. Mine is rated for 12500 conventional.
 
I trailer a 265 with a 3/4 ton Chevy 6.0 gas, the suspension and braking handle it well but on the hwy with hills and take offs you have to pick your openings just right.

For 95% of my local towing it does great, mine weighed in at 10300 lbs with 1/2 gas and no gear. I think the specs have the 282 weighing about 500lbs more than the 265.

I'm happy with my set up for local towing and launching, but won't be doing anymore long hauls with the boat (put about 2500miles on it this summer from Va to Ga and everywhere in between.
 
I pull my 272 with a Ford Excursion 6.0.
Tandem axle Boatmaster trailer custom built for a 272.
Pulls great, wants to run faster than I want to tow. I stay 60-65 with no problems.
A friend of mine puls his 282 with a 1500 crew cab Dodge Ram gas rated at 10,00 #'s.
He pulls locally and it works for him.
We're in S FL so no terrain issues.
 
A 3/4 ton will be fine. Some parts can be a little hilly with tight turns, I would prefer to have the 3/4 over the 1/2 ton. If it's twice a year then the 1/2 would do but any more than that go for a 3/4.
