Posting a few photos of transom work and deck drains prior to repower of 300 Marlin.
After removal of the 3.3l 250’s we inspected transom and found she was solid. Probing the mounting holes and removal of that bang cap angled aluminum, no wet or soft core was found. We did find some high moisture readings around the through holes to the deck drains starboard side and decided to investigate those and take necessary measures. I bought this 2007 model 6 years ago and at that time all readings were satisfactory.
The game plan was to address the transom cap and glass it over to prevent any possible future water intrusion and replace the brass tubes in the wash well. We also wanted to replace the plastic deck drains, hoses and associated thru hulls which we did. After seeing the condition of those drain hoses I would strongly urge anyone owning an older model to do so.
As indicated by my trusty moisture meter the starboard thru hull penetrations were wet. We removed the wet material (about an inch around) and filled void with thickened epoxy before re-bedding. I forgot to capture a photo of those new Gem Lux stainless drains (they are nice).
Although I have a handful of hours on the new 300 Yamaha’s. I can tell you it is a noticeable improvement over the older 250’s. At 3800 rpm’s she ran just over 24kts and at 4200 r’s I saw over 28kts
