Has anyone mounted a trolling motor on the bow pulpit of a walk around style boat? The motor would then lay back on the top of the cabin not totally flat. I have ssen posts wher the motor was mounted on the gunnel on one side of the cabin and one section of the bow rail was made to open.

Both options have their advantages and problems.
The below boat is a Albemarle 30 and mounted on the bow pulpit nd i can't remeber if owner cut a piece of the rail or if he lower the TM passing it below the rail.
This one is not flat either, but it's a Motor Guide, not sure about other brands but could check in my Kraken installing instructions how much inclination is permitted.
On a WA/Express/sportfish the bow pulpit is probably the best solution.

Thanks for the reply. I think it will work finebut will have to have clamp to hold the head a nd shaft as there is not as much room on my Grady as on the boat pictured.

You should also verify if your pulpit is strong enough, a strong TM put a lot of strain on the anchor point (pulpit in your case) due it's long lever.
If you find it not sooo strong then you should find a way to make a well anchored plate to distribute the pressure.

You CAN cut the rail and install a SS hinge so the cut section can be folded back on itself while deploying the trolling motor.
The rail can be re-secured when the trolling motor is stowed using a section of PVC pipe that slides over the cut, and is secured with a SS pin going through the PVC pipe and the bow rail.
