So far I’m 0-2 trying to buy a late model Marlin 30. Each time delamination of the balsa hull core was detected. The surveyor and repair shop I was referred to on my last attempt both said it’s a common problem with Grady White wide beam boats. The repair shop owner told me to buy a moisture meter and check prospective boats before I shell out for another survey. So far I can’t find a 2003 vintage Marlin 30 without high moisture readings. The boat I’m looking at now looks good except for a 4 foot long section low on the port side hull that pegs the meter. Neither the bank or the insurance company are requiring a survey, but it would be taking a big gamble to go without. Getting accurate information on this issue has been difficult to say the least. Any help out there?
