Hello all,

I have a new 2022 GW235. I've only taken it out in freshwater three times now. I have cleaned it after each time I've taken it out. I plan to wax and polish it in a couple of months. The other day, I noticed a few hazy looking small film strips peeling off of the hull. It almost look like plastic wrap peeling off. Does anyone know what this is and do I need to be alarmed? I'm not sure if it is clear coat peeling or gelcoat? I want to keep the boat in close to showroom condition for years to come. So if there is an issue, I want to address quickly or if I need to take it back to the dealer to get it fixed. Thanks.

I would expect the film to be colored if it were gel coat. I am wondering if the hull was not cleaned correctly when it was unmolded. The film may be release agent that is applied to the mold to reduce sticking of the hull during glass layup.
You can try wiping the area with hull dewaxer to see what happens.

The factory shrink wraps and tapes the edges. Could it be residue?

Interesting thought but I am not sure id the wrap would leave a clear film.
I s the film like a tape that can be stretched or torn or is it more like a liquid that dried out into a this coating .

I really don't know what it is but am interested in hearing what you find out.

When I took off a thin strip (3/4"x1") of it, the film could be stretched, but becomes brittle and splinter after stretching a little. It doesn't look like shrink wrap. The pieces are on the side of the hull, so not on the edges. It is a mystery to me. I don't necessarily want to polish and wax it right now until I find out what it is. Thanks.

I was able to take a pic of it if that helps. The strands are the coloring of my hull and not clear. Thanks.

Is your hull smooth? That looks like some kind of tape…..Shrink wrap actually….It has threads (Not real threads, but strands). Hard to tell from the pic. Is the hull smooth where you peel it off? That doesn’t look like gelcoat.

When I run my hand on the hull area that’s peeling, it’s rough. All areas around it is smooth.

It is likely a clear PVA release agent that is sprayed into the mold. When cured it peels like Saran Wrap. Surprised they didn’t do a better job cleaning the hull.

I would definitely talk to the dealer and possibly GW. You have a warranty.

They use a double side tape with pad in the middle some times to mii II Tigard shrink wrap burnishing of the hill during transit. Maybe a residue of some type???
