I took a ride in Gary's Marlin, the pump was almost silent. He has a 208 as well and I have a 228 and the livewell pumps are crazy noisy, louder than my kicker at 3mph. I want to replace mine with the Marlin pump but don't know what it is. Anyone know?

I believe it’s a shurflo pro bait master II. Mounted on rubber feet on the bilge bulkhead. Pop the Marlins access plate and shine a flashlight toward the bow. The need to stay dry and not have any hose drips or they rust.

I do not know what kind of pump you have or how it's mounted, but...

First, take a look at how it's mounted. I'm not saying this is the issue, but I have often pumps (all different kinds) mounted direct to a floor space where the floor ends up acting as an amplifier. Meaning, this issue could simply be how it's mounted. If this is the case, the pump can be mounted to two short lengths of 1-1/2" reinforced hose (sanitation hose, for example) and then the hose mounted to the floor. It will make a VER noticeable difference... again, if this is, in fact, the issue to start with.

On mine it's in the aft bilge and they are Rule's. Where are your clamshell pickups? Come on...it's not really that difficult...figure it out!

the marlin currently uses the same bait sentry livewell pump that is used on most of the other models. its probably more to do with the location and mounting that makes your sound louder than his. either that or the water flow is restricted on yours and/or it is going bad...

From Eddie @ Grady-White:

The 2020 the 208 and 228 used a Shurflo Pro Blaster 2 pump. Their item number is 4248-153-J09.

The Marlin used a Sentry pump. Their item number is 1700-020-031.

Both are a products of Pentair Flow Technologies.

I think of the Shurflo Pro Blaster 2 as a washdown pump, 3.5-5 gal/minute, 1/2" outlet, at around 50psi. Bait Sentry puts out 800-1100/hour(13-18/min), thru 3/4 discharges, at a much lower pressure. That may be the reason for the noise.

I've looked at the bait sentry, the one they put in the Marlin is for a bigger tank, I'm inclined to put one in that is for a 30 gallon tank (I believe that the 228 has a 22-25 gallon tank). It's the smallest Bait Sentry model.

This is in my 2013 228G , I can't say she is silent but she does the job with some noise . I have a timer so she goes on and off . I can vary duration with a variable switch depending on the amount of livies in the tank.

I had another 228 owner at my place today, he has a 1999 version. He said to change the pump you have to pull the livewell out and it is a pain. Given that I'm thinking about a Marlin, I think I'm just gonna deal with the noise on the 228 for now.

Yes you have to remove the livewell, not hard. Take the lid off then the screws that hold the tank down. Undo the drain and filler hoses..
I find it harder working on the bilge, you either need to be very small person ( child) to get in the bilge or have very long skinny arms, small head helps too.
