I just picked up a heading sensor and the place I thought it would work won't. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Hi,
The size of the sensor determines where you can place it. I remember I went with a KVH heading sensor and it was quite large like 5" in diameter. I ended up swapping it out for a Raymarine unit (lucky I had the E series monitors) as the electronics and gyro were seperate units and I could fit the smaller dia (1.5") gyro where I wanted it.
They say the best place is down in the hull near the water line roughly in a mid location. I was able to get it under the mid berth area on the Marlin.

This is the KVH sensor,which I am finding is a bit of a challenge. Does anyone know if putting this in the bilge is a no-no or not?
