Sorry I wrote SpotLock what is Minn Kota TM position holding, I meant SkyHook or similar system using the outboards to keep position.
I am sure that hours of SkyHook, HM or similar systems are not very good for the lower unit and that it will reduce their life.
My Dive Panga suffered a worn dog but somewhere after 2000 hours of idling and maneuvering a lot every morning for 4 hours to pick up the divers what I accept and consider normal wear. Every brands lower unit will last a certain shifts and then it start to wear out, and SkyHook and similar system will accelerate that due the numbers of shifts to keep position.
Also i am not a fan of digital steering and stuff like that, I'm fine with hydraulic steering without servo steering, it's maybe necessary for 2+ outboard powered boats but I never had problems to steer a twin outboard powered boat. I like to keep things simple...
