Yes, this subject has been thrashed over time and I have been guilty of participating in the past. But......why in the Yamaha Engine specs for the 4 strokes they say WOT 5000 to 6000 rpms? Yet we seem to insist that in order to avoid engine damage we must be up around the 6000 rpm WOT. I am running 5600 to 5700 on my F200xb and with the 6000 WOT suggested, will my F200 be humming with the angels soon or can I predict its lengthy and fun filled future.

Ideally when lightly or moderately loaded you should hit 6000 rpm. That way when loaded you can still hit the 5-6k range. By doing so means that the engines aren't over loaded when the boat is fully loaded. Over loading the engines leads to high heat conditions potential shortening the life of the engine components.
If when loaded your f200 can't easily break 5k rpm, you are over propped. Otherwise run it without concern.
Fortunately the f200 is not known for crapping out for some other BS reason like poor QC on their aluminum alloys.

High 5000s is fine. Load, bottom condition, seas, current, props and trim all factors.
