Hey guys, whats the deal - if any, is with the Yamaha 200 HP Outbard Motor, I'm looking at a 1998 208 with a Yahmaha 200 HP Outboard that accoring to the owner has less than 300 but more than 200 hours. I dont want to but a motor that does not have a proven track record. Anything I can expect regarding bad/good of this powerplant?

My 1995 - 192 Tournamnet (up for sale) with a 175 HP Johnson that does NOT skip a beat... Hate to sell it and buy a problem.

Thanks,

Jeff

Good motor, especially if it's an OX66, (fuel injected). I would have a 3rd party Yamaha dealer check it out... compression test, lower unit vacuum test, etc. I'd also have a survey done on the boat, for piece of mind.

I have had that 2.6 Yam engine in about a dozen different models from 150 to 225. They don't get any better. Clean fuel, Yamalube, Ringfree and you have about 1500 more hours on that thing.

I know my experience is the exception , but my "in perfect condition" yamaha 2 stroke 1997 470 hours just blew the power head. new oil fresh gas new yam fuel filter, every possible maintenance item was checked. just got it back from the dealer to have new throttle and shift cables.

Nothing wrong with the SWS series carbed 200 either. I had 2 of them that same year, on different boats, and had no issues with either. Very easy to work on and maintain. Use Yamalube and Ring Free, and decarb it once a year.
