considering for purchase, heard yamaha had some issues is this a good yr 250 hpdi or one to walk away from ?motor supposedly has had updates n has under 400 hrs on it.what updates (have not seen readout yet) should it have had ?has anyone had these updates n had a good reliable motor or did problems persist. :hmm please any input is appreciated.

Have not had personal experience with them but know people who hate them and people that love them. Overall they do have issues but with the updates I'm told they do okay. I do know they are super sensitive to fuel but a better resource is the hull truth. Do a search and you will find the good, bad and the ugly. I personally don't do my own engine work so I didn't consider the hpdi due to the issues I read about. If you are mechanically inclined and enjoy doing your own work you can probably get it running well and save some $ in the process. FWIW I hear the 200 hpdi is bullet proof, what makes the 200 bullet proof and the 250 a pos I have no clue, just some of the crap I read over on THT.
good luck
Nick

The 250's and 300's are totally differnt blocks from the 200's. When things go bad it's time for a new powerhead, unless it's REAL cheap I'd pass. There's a reason nobody wants them and Yamaha stopped making them.

200 HPDI - best engine Yamaha ever made.

250 and 300 HPDIs - worst engines Yamaha has ever made.

I'd steer clear if it were me.....

nuff said-im walking-thank you to all that responded.in contrast the saltwater series 250 is a very reliable motor ???
