Time coming up for the first oil change. What should I expect for a reasonable price. :?:

Oil Change

I have an F250 on my 228. The 10 hr. cost me $360 at the yamaha dealer down the street. The 100 hr. cost $620 and the 200 hr. was gonna cost over $850. They charge $110 an hour. For the 200 hr. I told them to just do the oil change and the required inspections. They changed the lower unit oil too (by mistake they said) and the bill was $307.

These guys changed the plugs and thermostats at every check up and were gonna change the water pump too at the 200 hr. They also changed the zincs and the trim tab zinc was missing (ie: fell off) when I pulled it out of the water for the 200. I can change plugs, zincs, the thermostats, and the water pump myself and use the $110 an hour I save to buy gas.
Cheers,
Dan

Just had my 500 hr done on my 33 with 350's...They charge me $200 just to take it out of the water.... Service was $1800...$109 hr. labor - Parts $800, Labor $1100.

Unfortunetly I have no trailer to get it out of the water or I'd do most myself...

There is no such thing as "reasonable" when it comes to professional boat maintenance. If you are comfortable doing at least some things yourself, it will save you thousands. Be careful, though, because some maint issues could be linked to warranty and may need to be done by licensed engine mechanics...Heck, it cost me $100 just to get my F150 "inspected" prior to changeover of the warrenty from the last owner! Crazy!

I have some friends that are doctors and most of them don't make anywhere near $110/hr. True, I knew what I was getting into when I bought my boat, but if I didn't enjoy the water and my Grady so much, it would be hard to justify the robbery that is boat labor....All of us know what BOAT stands for.......

I take my boat on a trailer to my authorized Yamaha dealer who does not sell new boats and he charges me the same rate as my car dealer, $55. an hour plus parts. I have never had a problem. Y225
