Over the years, I've had intermittent issues with the two trim switches on the binnacle working or not. I think it is mostly my own fault as I was the entire helm down liberally with soap and water after each trip. I'm sure I'm the cause of water intrusion, but a clean boat trumps the concern for me.

I normally use WD40 and spray the switches and this drives out the moisture if it happens. I use the dual switch on the side of the throttle on the binnacle most of the time anyway. Never had an issue with this switch. Well this year both top switches wouldn't raise the motors, down was ok. The covers were faded and I decided to replace them. You can't replace the covers (up/dn printed on them) as they are part of the switch.

There are a couple of binnacles (pre and post 2005) since my boat is on the edge from a year perspective, I wasn't sure which I had. I reached out to Andy at SIM Yamaha and with a picture he was able to identify the right switch. One model uses 4 screws to hold the cover on. The other (I believe post 2005 and the one I have) has a rubber block on the bottom that you pry out and then 2 screws to remove the cover.

The link to the diagram for the 2 screw cover control is: https://www.simyamaha.com/category_s/12 ... egory=1009
Cables are as follows off the diagram.
The strb engine switch is number 64
The port engine switch is number 61
The trim all switch on the port side control handle is number 34

Thought I'd share for the archives should anyone need to swap these in the future.

Thanks for the info! Nice to note for future use. I recently had an intermittent (mostly not working) trim switch on the throttle. I took it out and sprayed it out best I could with CRC plastic safe contact cleaner. Liberally soaked it and actuated it about 100 times and it has worked flawlessly for the last year. The contacts just get corroded and the CRC seems to shine them back up if you can get it to soak in.

My single station control also had an intermittent switch. I can't remember if it was the Up or the Down function but I decided to open the control and pop out the switch. Fortunately the actual switch mas made so that it could be opened up. I cleaned the guts and lightly filed the contacts. Put it back together and it has been working fine.
That was 5 years ago:)

Good input. I'll see if I can take the old ones apart and clean up. Will have ready in the wait if needed hopefully.

Received them and installed today. My switches didn't click in one direction it was time to change. They were pretty faded due to the sun as well. You can replace these without removing the binnacle. The wires are a tight fit going through the binnacle though. About a 15 min job. After you do it once, you could probably do it in 5 minutes.
