I have copied my original post from the General discussion forum to here as I got no relevant responses there.

I am contemplating repowering my 2001 Tournament, it currently has a 2001 Yamaha SX250Z. I live on an island on Lake Winnipesaukee, NH and the Tournament is used for our primary means of transportation, our island SUV. We also us it for crusing, water skiing, tubing and fishing.
I am trying to decide between the new big bore Yamaha F250 and the G2 Evinrude 250 HP ETEC. Wanted to know if anyone has powered their boat with one of them and if there are any recommendations between the 2. Advantages / disadvantages?

Thanks!
Ken

I have a 2011 225 with a 4.2L Yahama 250. It's a great motor, but is a bit too heavy as the boat sits low in the stern, especially with full fuel. My previous boat was a GW Gulstream 232. I had a 2005 model E Tec 250 on it and it was a great motor. I selected that motor because of it's lighter weight. I would have preferred an E Tec on my 225 when I bought it, but since new GW's only come with Yamahas, I had no choice. The E Tec will be noiser, but not that much louder. Performance should be better, especially out of the hole. Fuel economy should be similar. I'm not familiar with the weights of current models, but it there is a 50 lb of greater advantage with the E Tec, I'd go with the E Tec. You'll appreciate it's less maintenance too.

Ken - the E-tec G2's are too new so no one here is going to have one. You could try posting your question at the E-tec site:

http://www.etecownersgroup.com/

which has a separate forum for the G2:

http://www.etecownersgroup.com/?forum=377900

The folks there are very excited about the G2. Many of the folks who post there are professionals who sell and service all brands so they may be able to help you.

One thought is that I'm pretty sure you won't need a 250 HP E-Tec to push your boat. If an F225 is considered viable on that boat than even the current generation E-Tec 200HO (rated at 220 HP) will outperform the F225 and the G2 will outperform the G1.

My 200HO boast is based on my experience with them and one example is where I pushed my Sailfish 27 at 35 MPH/5100RPM with only one 8-year-old engine in the water - link to video below. (My normal top speed is 48MPH/5800 RPM.)
