Broke the crank on one of my F350 Yamahas. 1 year old motors, had 200+ hours on the engine. Put some serious hours on the motors in July/August while traveling to/from and in the Keys. Did notice that the engine with the broken crank used about a quart and half of oil during my 1,300 mile trip. Other engine I added a quarter of a quart.

My dealer just told me they received a bulletin from Yamaha to check the flywheels at 100 hours and look for wear and replace if motor is under warranty.

My concern is that when i use my boat (336 Canyon) i put the hours on.

Have seen a few posts of those with broken crankshafts. If you have a F350 be sure to get yours checked. It will be a long/slow trip back from 70 miles at 7kts.

What happens when the warranty runs out?

Good advice. I just saw a similar thread on another forum. A Yamaha dealer on there said to replace the flywheel at 300 hours..even on newer engines.. and I believe he said Yamaha will reimburse if still under warranty. You may want to call Yamaha for further info or speak to a certified dealer to get the entire story as this was "on the internet".
