I was at my not so local marine store recently for some winterizing supplies and happened to look at Ring Free. The 32 oz bottle was something like $56. I was in shock. I know it has been going up every year but that is ridiculous. OK, it works out to about 17 cents added to the price of a gallon of gas. That doesn't sound bad but think about how much those little drips and spills of Ring Free are worth:)

You can get it from SIM Yamaha for $43.94 per 32 oz bottle.

I get it by the case ($500) with free shipping. That comes out to $41.67 per bottle.

i was told Marvins Mystery oil contains the exact same ingredients. Info is on Hull Truth.com.

When Ring Free first come out, I called Chevron Technical Support and asked them about the product. I got to speak with a guy on the development team who told me that in was a concentrated form of Techron. When used at the maintenance level (1 oz per 10 gallons), it brings the Techron level up to that present in Chevron (and now Texaco) gasoline. The idea is to protect the engine from deposits that form when "lower quality" gasoline is used. What that means is that if we are already running a high quality fuel, Ring Free is probably a waste of money. I use it now because I have no idea about the quality of the Rec 90 sold at my marina.

There are several BS posts that claim that Ring Free has changed its formula and now simply a solvent rather than a polyetheramine derivative (i.e. Techron). I have to call that BS because even without gas chromatography, my nose can pick up the same distinctive amine odor from the current product. The "plus" component found in the later versions of Yamaha fuel additives is to protect aluminum fuel system parts from ethanol related corrosion problems.

Thanks for the good info.
I always fill up with Valvtect gas which claims to have all the additives needed for a marine engine. They say that no other additives are needed. That said, I have been using Ring Free from day one as had the previous and original owner of my boat and I have not had (knock on wood) any deposit buildup issues, crap in the filters, etc. The motor is going on 14 years and still starts right up and runs well. I just don't want to put the hex on it:)
The takeaway perhaps is that if I occasionally forget to add the Ring Free, I probably won't lose sleep over it.

Thanks for the Domo link! Will place my order from there as it is best price I have seen so far! :D
