I’ve been putting this job off for a years now, but finally decided to fix my through hull valves so they all move freely without any force. Sure, I wish, I had to fix them because one of them didn’t close anymore, and the boat is pay for now and of coarse things only happen after you make that last payment. So I try oil, I tried wire brushing in the hole opening, nothings working. Well not having anymore ideas I removed the handle, and tried to remove the nut / bushing behind the handle. That was where the sucker was bound up. And brass is so soft so I screwed up the threads on that nut, will not move on the shaft to close the valve. So now I have to take it all apart to fix it . I was thinking the worst but surprisingly it came apart easy, only one smashed finger, and two bloody knuckles. And a new valve only $27.00 not as bad as I Was thinking. So do I use plumbers dope or Teflon tape to put it back together. What works better for brass threads on saltwater vales?
