I exchanged the motor and got the 25" shaft and returned the Adventure Marine bracket and bought the custom one from Jacobsen Marine in Seattle. Rock solid and perfect height on my 228.
Ok I just ordered the adventure marine bracket will that not work for the 25” motor?

I returned it so I really can't say. My issue is I didn't want to cut it to fit around that trim tab piston since it's powder coated (on the exterior) and it's hollow so it'll fill with water and corrode. The other issue with the Adventure Marine bracket is its much longer so the kicker will be more of an obstacle docking, fishing etc.
I've owned both and the Jacobsen bracket is a much better product and fit for my boat.
The only issue is the upper bolts come through just above the back seat which requires some patch work.

Ok gotcha, and the reason for needing to cut it were to be able to mount it low enough for the motor to be at the desired length or can you just mount it so it’s just above the trim tab?

It's been a year but as I recall if I positioned the bottom of the Adventure bracket on top of that piston then the upper bolts would come through that horizontal cross beam making it wonky to through bolt and I didn't want to use lag bolts on the upper.

When I spoke with Adventure Marine about it he said he was considering a redesign but I doubt that's happened yet.

Ok gotcha. I’m gonna attempt to cancel mine and look into the Jacobsen marine bracket.

That's what I would recommend. The Jacobsen bracket is made of 1/2" aluminum so very solid construction and the way its mounted I could probably lift the entire boat from it if I attached it to a crane, seriously. Also the powder coat is the same color as my hull, the Adventure bracket is white.

So you ha

wnat was the reason you had to notch it as opposed to putting it just above the trim tab actuator ?
Its where my kicker prop needed to be in reguards to the water line, i wanted it a little deeper for when we fish in sloppy water so the lower unit isnt cavitating with every wave.

Im going to order one this week. Did you install with a backing plate or just fender washers on the inside of the transom?

I bought a set of the large washers and bolts used to mount engines and that transom is much thicker than expected. 2.5" if i recall.
One word of advice is don't drill into the transom dead on horizontally. If you do the washers won't and the bolts won't sit right because the transom angles back.... Use the bracket as a template and angle the drill slightly upward.

Does anyone have a kicker on a fixed mount without power trim tilt?

It's custom fabricated for a Grady dealer in Seattle called Jacobsen Marine. $600 plus shipping but it's a work of art and solid as a rock. I dare say I could probably tie a line to it and lift the entire boat with it.

do you have power trim tilt? I don’t and I’m wondering if this will work for me as well

If you mean the power tilt vs manual tilt, my previous boat was manual, my current boat is power tilt. Power tilt is what you want unless you are some fit 20 something dude and even then, power tilt is really nice. Weighs a little more, costs a little more, worth it.

If you mean some bracket that goes up and down under power, I have no experience with those.

Hahaha, I jjsy picked up a Yamaha 9.9 doesn’t have power tilt. Was going to install it on the Jacobsen marine bracket Eveyone seems to love was curious how it would be to hand tilt on that fixed bracket. I also see a panther marine 35 bracket which has its own power tilt seems pretty cool.

BTW, I went with Suzuki for my kicker even though the main engine is Yamaha. Yeah, the colors don't match, shrug. I picked Suzuki because they are fuel injected and the Yamaha 9.9 is not.

Also, I believe Suzuki claims this is a high thrust motor, 4 blade prop. It won't move my 228 more than 6MPH. Maybe it would on a really flat ocean, I dunno, we never get those conditions. In slop, around 6mph WOT. I only mention this because someone was saying that their Yamaha T8 could move them at 7 or 8, my 2020 Suzuki 9.9 can't do that. Just a FYI.

I should add that I'm fine with it, I need it to get me to 2.5-3 for Salmon trolling and it works fine for that. If I have to troll faster than 6, the main engine has a troll mode that will get me down to 6mph.

I have a manual tilt. Not that big of a deal but you could probably add electric to your Yamaha. Check the manual for the model

I put a pull start manual tilt F6 on my Whaler about 20 years ago so I have some experience with manual and last spring I put a F9.9 with electric start and electric trim on my 228, it's like night and day, love it.
Plus, all the bouncing around eventually destroyed the bracket assembly that holds the engine up which cost about $400 in parts and several hours of my time to repair.

HMBJack recommended this fixed bracket to me several years ago and it's been perfect for me. I had the Garelick adjustable bracket prior to this and was scared to death it would fail every time I towed the boat to the ramp. I don't think the T-8's are available from Yamaha anymore but the T9.9 should be just as good if not better.
Can you fully tilt the motor without it hitting the transom ?
