I just installed a 8612xsv and GT51M-TH ClearVu/SideVu/CHIRP transducer. Also kept my B744 50/200 traditional transducer.
Garmin makes a 6-pin to 8-pin adaptor. You may be able to use your existing transducer with this adaptor. I used it on mine.
You should consider adding a CHIRP or ClearVu/SideVu/CHIRP transducer. 8612xsv supports 2 transducers.
I also have a 943xsv in the overhead electronics box. The 1243xsv is a less expensive alternative if lower screen resolution is acceptable. Only one transducer is supported on these models. This only matters if you are networking displays and want to use a different transducer on different displays.
