So Cal fishing weekend of 8/27?

Good luck, you guys... Dana Wharf Sportfishing set a record for most dorado ever caught in 1 day at their landing today...

Day started out slow as I was trying to find a kelp, once we found one we picked away on a handful of dorados. The kelp had about 10 boats fishing and everyone was picking away it. 15 lb floro worked, but we did end up farming a few. 7 mile straight west outside Oside harbor.

Boat has to be moving fwd. If you are lucky they come right along side. Long gaff with a small hook. If you miss once God help you.
It helps to have already boated a few so you are calm. When it goes right it is zen-like...

We have head gaffed three big ones and bounced them off the gunnel overboard just this season.

Once its in the boat you are only halfway there. I have lost a 20# dolphin that was gaffed, in the boat, fell off the gaff, flopped and sprayed the entire boat with blood, threw the hook, bitch slapped me as I tried to grab it and then went back overboard.

If your boat is not in gear its damn near impossible.

Yep... It's the only fish I purposely try to stick in the middle and not the head so they don't flop off the gaff.

Here's a video from a few years ago of our stupid antics on a dorado that fell off the gaff inside the boat.... fishing rods falling everywhere... bait net falling overboard... me clubbing it (not) to death... SMH...

Here's our canyon trip a few weeks ago. It doesn't help when it was a slow morning and the crew decided to drink the edge off...
There is a cluster and there is redemption.
Its a homemade 7 1/2 ft gaff from sched40 pvc and a small gaff hook epoxied in place.
