265 not so fresh water tank

We actually get a lot of use from the freshwater tank. Fishing 50 miles offshore with 100 degrees, it is nice to go down in the cabin, clean the salt and oils off glasses and sunglasses, rinse face/dowse head and towel dry. Now feel like 100% again! ;)
We also use it to rinse off all the reels and tackle to get the salt off before heading back inshore and store them down in the cabin. We use the sink and some anti bacterial soap to clean the bait off hands before eating lunch. The girls would not be happy without it!

To restore the tank, I use a shock does of bleach in the tank, fill with water and let it sit 24 hours. About a cup in the 30 gallons will kill any bacteria and help to clean the tank. Then I run all the faucets and cockpit hose until empty. I refill with water and empty again. Then when I refill, I use 1oz bleach to the 30 gallons water to keep it fresh and bacteria free. If emergency, one could drink it, but we don't. When winterizing, I empty the tank and add 1 gallon antifreeze and run each faucet until the pink shows up and wait for spring and do the tank restore procedure again.

Same here, i really enjoy the freshwater for the reasons you mentioned, particularly rinsing gear and lures after use makes them rust much less.

RV's use a kind of silver net to drop in the tank, i use that and it works great, but may be problematic to drop in a boat water tank as most of them are inaccessible.
If you can access your water tank and it has a wider opening to clean it thn one of this silver ion nets is a set and forget solution.
WM Acquatec produces them, but probably other companies too.
Silver Ion+ water disinfection is widely used and has less side effects than chlorine disinfection.
If interested you may ask in a RV shop, they should know about such products and if it exist in a liquid state.
BTW: They have also a save water system scale remover to remove deposits from hard water filled in the tank.

However, as i can't access the water tank (or not aware how) to clean it i use every fill food grade chlorine for disinfection.
