I have a 2012 Marlin 300. I'd like to install an in gunnel (if possible) combo rod holder/cup holder on both port and starboard sides near the bow. If anyone has done this to their Marlin 300 please send a photo. Thank You !

Not a lot of feedback, so I'll give my two-cent opinion. Install bow-rail clamp-on rod holders and cupholders. IMHO never drill holes into a boat hull/deck if you have ANY other option!

Drilling holes, understandably, can be a daunting task. But honestly, once you've done it a bunch of times, it's an every day thing. Heck, there are already plenty of holes drilled in the boat - if your skills set is decent, there's absolutely no difference in you doing it than the factory doing it.

TW - will you be doing the install?

For now, see if you the area will even allow for a rod holder. Will you use a straight or angled holder? I'm sure you're familiar with the general size of a rod holder... with that in mind, go look at your bow and see if there is sufficient space to drill the hole and sufficient depth for the holder.

If you do it, where will the water go that goes down the rod holder? You'll need a sealed rod holder with drain lines.

Good point.

Unless they will end up draining to an area that, itself, drains.

BUT... I just realized we're talking about a Marlin. For some reason, I thought we were talking about a bowrider. Yeah, in this case, it makes a whole lot more sense to use clamp-on holders as there's lot's of rail "real estate" to use.

Water will go into the bilge or worse cabin. Rail mounted is the way to go. You will find you don't use them much up there. Keep the space for spinners.

Check the Burnewiin website, they have great rail mount systems that work really well.
