    268 Islander info needed

I have a 98 with no known transom issues...what did you repower with? I've thought about doing that but unsure with the weight of the 4 strokes...would love twin 200s as I know the boat is rated at a max hp of 400.

    Old Grady Bottom Paint

If you want to get by another season, you could always pressure wash and use a one season paint like CPP from west marine. Use caution sanding yourself...it will no doubt be a dusty mess and you'll want to ensure a proper respirator given the toxicity of these paints. If you do sand all the...

Islander 268 Minn Kota Trolling Motor Install

I ended up using 3/4" pvc end caps over the rail ends where I cut...they seemed to go on snug and definitely take away any sharp edges!

    GW Walkaround Forward (Bow) Hatch

Anyone have any ideas on what this part is called or where to find it? It did have a knob on the arm that allowed me to position the forward hatch for fresh air that opened up above the cabin.

Islander 268 Minn Kota Trolling Motor Install

I still have cap the ends of the rails...probably going to use bullet style plugs. Also, the bow rails are still very sturdy and provide plenty of support to scoot around!

Islander 268 Minn Kota Trolling Motor Install

I know there is not much out there for trolling motor install on some of the GW walkarounds. I wanted to share this recent install (took two people) in hopes of giving ideas to those looking to do the same. I installed an 87" MK riptide terrova and wanted it angled across the bow for a...

    Totalscan Thru hull

I put mine (not a thru hull) on the port side closer to the center line on a transom saver. I dont notice any performance issues. I made the mistake of not using transducer paint and now have to carefully clean the sea creatures off the ducer...guaranteed I will be using the paint next time...

    Islander Instrument Panel

I removed the glass cover piece and just used the existing holes of the old wooden panel. I'm assuming the person who owned the boat before me used some type of starboard modification for the top piece. However, I used used the old screw hole locations for the top panel and well. Attached is a...

    Islander Instrument Panel

I have a 98 Islander and put a 9" display on one panel and a 7" on the other panel. I got the measurements and worked with new wire marine to design the cutouts of both panels to incorporate the displays and gauges, which turned out pretty good. I even sent the old panels in so new wire could...

Keep 228 or move up to 282??

Skunkboat hit the nail on the head...definitely will wear you out trailering/launching all the time with the length, weight, and beam...especially if launching solo. One thing to think about is how easy the trailer is set up for solo launching...some trailers make it easier than others!

    Tiger Cat Propellor Selection

I just upgraded the props on my Islander 268 (twin evinrude 150s). I went with Solas Rubex HR4 15" 4 blade props based upon the prop fitter they have on their website. The prior props were 3 blade 17" pitch and the difference is incredible. The 15" pitch has me in the correct RPM range and has...

    Grady White Islander Propeller Advice

For those on the hunt and looking, I just installed Solas Rubex HR 4 props in a 15" pitch. Night and day difference from the 3 blades that were on there. The boat handles much much better and seems to "stick" more. I cannot believe I didn't do this sooner.

    Grady White Islander Propeller Advice

I know there are several discussions on this topic already. However, I'm looking for feedback from those with Islander models or similar. I currently have twin Evinrude Etec 150s on my Islander 268 that are equipped with 3 blade viper props. I'm not crazy about how the boat handles with the 3...

Bennett to Lenco Tabs retro for Islander 268

Yea they are all zinc anodes and I believe there is a ss ferrule in the hole just like the round zincs. They are designed specifically for Bennett tabs. I got all of the anodes from boatzincs.com. Fingers crossed on the reliability. I will surely update to this thread if I have any issues.

Bennett to Lenco Tabs retro for Islander 268

The old system was worn out after 20 years so the hydraulic system is definitely very reliable. The price of the bolt conversion kit wasnt too bad...off the top of my head somewhere between $200 and $300. This included the actuators and control box to work with the hydraulic switch. One other...
