Rebuild 1988 Grady White Offshore Pulpit

Thanks for the wax paper suggestion, worked perfect. Here's the finished product. Certainly not perfect, but I'm happy on how it came out. Learned a lot (and cursed a lot) about fiberglassing and painting, but it's back on and the boat's in the water, so all good.

Rebuild 1988 Grady White Offshore Pulpit

Good stuff. My problem started a couple of seasons ago with a crack along the top edge which I patched, but eventually led to a large amount of delamination. Following what MrD did, my plan is to remove the bottom skin, seal the wood which is in good shape, epoxy the bottom skin back on, and...

    Replacing bilge drain tube

Brian Thanks for the advise. The process you describe is what I had in mind. So far, I've scraped back to solid wood and removed much of the loose "mush". I would guess that I've removed about 3/4" depth until I hit the solid wood. The damage is located on the interior of the transom. I'm...

    Replacing bilge drain tube

Already removed the delaminated fiberglass on the inside (+/-4" dia) and dug out the loose plywood and mush. Thinking I will have to drill out and enlarge the existing bilge drain tube and clean out any other plywood that I can access. Then I need to get the wood to dry.

    Replacing bilge drain tube

Looking for some insight from someone who may have replaced the bilge drain tube. Long story short, but I came to discover that mine had deteriorated and allowed water to enter the exposed plywood (from the bildge side) in the transom. The boat is a '88 Offshore with a full transom and...

    zuke 300hp

I repowered my Offshore last year with a suzuki 300, and I couldn't be happier. Very pleased with performance so far, has more than enough low end power for this sized boat, good fuel economy (if there is such a thing), and best of all we can carry on a conversation while underway. I'm...

    Inspecting fuel tanks

I replaced the main tank on my '88 Offshore this past Spring. The installation was exactly as shown in your picture. The weak point is what is under the wood, and below the tank. Grady used thin strips of neoprene between the wood and tank on the top, and neoprene between the tank and bilge...

    Need Gas Tank

new tank I just replaced the tank and hoses on my 88 Offshore. I got the specs from Grady customer service and found a place in FL with the best price and less than 2 weeks delivered to Mass. Tank removal was a bit of a pain as I had to trim off some of the fiberglass lip to get the tank out...

    smell of gas

BobP - Could you explain. It's my understanding from cust service at Grady, tank manufacturer, and others that proper install is to adhere the neoprene directly to the tank at any spot if comes in contact with boat, braces, etc.
