Replacing Duratrim on a '91 Grady

I have been trying to find a replacement for mine too, with no luck so far. I also spent about $125 on strips of black starboard to replace mine, but as soon as the sun hits it, it warms up and bellies out just like you said. I still have my old trim, I will try painting over it. Previous...

    Replacing Grady striping...

Just as a follow up, I tried acetone and brake cleaner and everything else. The only thing that seemed to work for me was a product I got at Lowe's called "Goof Off." It came in a spray paint can....I assume it was a solvent very similar to brake cleaner. I would spay that on a green heavy...

    Replacing Grady striping...

I am doing the same project right now. I used a heat gun to get the old striping off, but now there is the old adhesive still left on. Anyone know how I can get this off? I have tried about a dozen different products, but it seems the only thing that works is scraping with a putty knife.

    Kicker Fuel Line

I run my kicker fuel line from my filter/water separator. I can run both my kicker and main outboard at the same time. It works well. Just get a new separator holder like he said, with two outgoing ports. It is a $20 fix. The T in your line will screw with your fuel managment sensor, if you...

    Hardtop

No, I had to buy my enclosure separately. That too, was well worth the money. Call around to several different top makers, some of them will give you a package deal doing the top and canvas as well. Look for top makers at the boat shows this winter, maybe you can get a boat show special...

Fuel Monitoring System: Northstar vs Floscan

Also, when I fish close and burn 20 gallons or less, the floscan is usually accurate to less than .5 gallons.

Fuel Monitoring System: Northstar vs Floscan

I bought a floscan and have been very pleased. I fished several times offshore this summer, burning 50-60 gallons per day, and when I filled up at the pump the floscan was always accurate to within a range of .5 to 1.5 gallons. That's pretty darn good. There isn't a fuel meter out there that...

    Hardtop

I went through this same dilemma about a year and a half ago. I desperately wanted a hard top for my 228 seafarer. I looked high and low to find a used one that I could transfer to my boat. Bottom line is that used ones are almost impossible to find. No one ever separates a hard top from a...

need advice for potential kicker motor on Seafarer 228G

Thanks for the input so far. Do you guys have a link to the mounts that were described above? I would like to see them, and see where I might get one. Yes, I would still call the towboat anyway, but it is nice not to be completely helpless. Also, there are several places I fish where...

need advice for potential kicker motor on Seafarer 228G

I have a 228G Seafarer and was considering adding a kicker motor for some extra security. My motor is a 200hp yamaha 2 stroke (1994 w/ 900 hours). It is running good now, but broke down on me last summer when I was 13 miles offshore. Towboat saved the day (yes, I had the insurance) but I...

Need advice for repowering a Seafarer

Ok guys, I'm going to give it a try. I have orderd an OEM lower unit and am going to try to install it myself. I don't have a lot of experience working on outboard motors, so this will either by my finest hour or my greatest disaster. Stay tuned, I may need some help from the greatgrady faithful.

Need advice for repowering a Seafarer

Thanks everyone for the input. After a little more research, it does look like I still have a lot of life left in my motor if I can get the lower unit replaced. Even boats.net had a new yamaha OEM lower unit w/ a one year warranty for $1970. It shouldn't take much time in labor to put one of...

Need advice for repowering a Seafarer

So does that mean I would have to pump all the 87 octane gas out of my gastank? Or will they run ok on 87.

Need advice for repowering a Seafarer

Yeah, I have a hard top. Maybe that will help. I would like to try the "sit on the motor test", but it will just be a little hard to launch it and pull it out now without a working motor. I found a pretty good deal on a new F250. Dealer is willing to let it go for $13,500 because it is...
