    full enclosure questions

I had front, side, bimini and aft side curtains made by an Amish company up in PA. If you are going to be doing any night fishing (like I do a lot in the fall), you will want stratoglass, especially for the front. My front stratoglass curtain is almost as clear as glass, at night, and in foul...

New to the site, looking to purchase a late 80's grady

Can parts even be had anymore for a seadrive? I would pass on that one.

    replacement/broken parts on 05 Gulfstream

I just put these stainless drains in my 89 Gulfstream last year. Only had to grind the hole slightly larger with a dremel sanding bit. Worth the extra for stainless strength... http://www.gemlux.com/catalog/Deck-Drains/89506

    Blue stripe down the sides

I'd buy the liquid expressly made for that purpose (as a matter of fact, I did buy the stuff when I redid my tapes). Why take a chance on screwing up a 25-30' long strip of not so inexpensive tape? Before you pull the old tape off, draw a line in pencil along one edge of each of the tapes. A lot...

    handling twin outboard motors

Think of your boat as a shopping cart, with the throttles as the cart handle. For example, fwd on the port throttle and rev on the stbd throttle will turn the boat to the right just like a shopping cart would turn.

    Compass

Antaris, the fact that your compass took a dump as to leave what sounds like a lot of spill doesn't sound good. You may have a diaphram failure? I would fill it, and see how long it will contain the fluid. But, as a point of reference, when my compass "leaks" I don't see any spill evidence at...

    Compass

I'm sure that was just a typo, but it is odorless mineral SPIRITS. Some folks in the past have confused mineral oil with mineral spirits. Mineral oil is too thick for the compass card to rotate well.

    Compass

If the compass is like a Ritchie they are definitely serviceable in the field. I top mine off every year (too cheap or busy to send the thing in for repair). When I top mine off, it lasts all year until a bubble starts to form in the next winter. Unscrew the compass from the hull, and turn it...

    1989 Gulfstream 230 Forward Bilge

Water can come in as Larry says. There are other places it can come from also, such as a disconnected hose on a thruhull, under the bow nav lights if they are not sealed correctly, the windows, etc. The thing that would bother me as well is, why wasn't your bow float switch not working? It is...

(new to me) 1989 232... great boat, a couple questions...

Re: (new to me) 1989 232... great boat, a couple questions.. Not to despair about the washdown pump just yet. The pump housing may just be frozen with corrosion, or, you may just need a switch rebuild kit (goes on the pump motor) which will save you some $$$. Play with it. You might find the...

(new to me) 1989 232... great boat, a couple questions...

Re: (new to me) 1989 232... great boat, a couple questions.. You pulled out the drawers, but, did you unscrew the container the drawers slide into? There are 3 (or 4) screws top and bottom on the frame of the container that screw into the fiberglass pedestal.

(new to me) 1989 232... great boat, a couple questions...

Re: (new to me) 1989 232... great boat, a couple questions.. Hey Fat, sounds like you got a 230, not a 232. Your engines are mounted on the transom not on a bracket, correct? The only pump under the motor well is the aft bilge pump. The previous owner didn't move the livewell pump. Again, you...

(new to me) 1989 232... great boat, a couple questions...

Re: (new to me) 1989 232... great boat, a couple questions.. They are both under the port side pedestal seat. Pull out the cabinet under the pedestal, unbolt the 2X4 there and you will see the livewell/raw water washdown pump screwed to a stringer. The freshwater tank with pump attached is down...

    Transom Repair - South Jersey

I bet you'll be glad to see her back together again... That fighting chair pedestal in the cockpit; I wonder if that was original equipment? Mine had one just like it when I bought my boat (used). Got rid of it, not really necessary to fight Walleyes on the North coast of America (Lake Erie)...

    1990 230 Gulfstream Deadrise???

I measured mine personally, and I got 21 degrees at the transom. I've installed an Airmar B60-20. I think I already provided the measurements of where mine is located on the hull.
